Crescent Tree Gallery is pleased to present Debra Lynn Manville: Multifacets. The exhibition opens on September 7, 2024, and will run through October 30, 2024, with an opening reception on Saturday, September 7 from 6 PM to 9 PM. The reception is free and open to the public.
Manville’s abstract paintings represent a synthesis of intuitive and technical approaches to artmaking. Her works begin in the digital realm, calculated with design software to plot the exact color, shape, and relationships between the abstract forms which will populate a given work. She ushers these designs into physical being using a vinyl cutter, transferring the resulting shapes to the canvas to act as a mask for her application of acrylic paint.
Manville considers her colorforms and their interplay as a kind of silent language, extracting implied meaning from their tensions and harmonies. Her current series focuses on the interplay of dark and brightly colorful forms, representing the push and pull between fear and love which permeates our current personal and political landscape.
Born in North Plainfield, NJ, Debra Lynn Manville has been painting since the age of 12. She studied interior design at NYU and has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows on the East and West Coasts. She has been curating exhibitions since 2005, and in 2016 founded the virtual gallery project on Instagram @1milliondiamonds, which catalogs and champions artists creating geometric abstract art. Her personal Instagram is @1milliondebbies. Manville lives and works in Temecula, CA.
